Pirate Island treasure hunt illustration

Find a hunt that fits.

Make your own crew the heroes

Choose Pirate Island, add an explorer name or crew nickname and give the adventure a title. Pirate illustrations provide the setting without requiring a real island, a detailed floor plan or a purchased treasure chest.

Use the riddles as the route

The cards point to real objects you choose. A riddle about rows of stories leads to a bookshelf; a riddle about a soft shared seat leads to a sofa. The pirate artwork decorates the card. Unless you choose a Picture clue, the illustration itself is not the answer.

Mix riddles with secret messages

Choose the puzzle type and difficulty for individual clues. A number code can turn a hiding-place name into letters, while a word puzzle offers a different challenge. Regenerate a clue to apply its new settings, then read the result yourself. Keep the destination names recognizable to your crew.

Prepare a simple pirate finish

A decorated box, a handwritten captain’s message or a shared treat can serve as treasure. Put it at the final destination listed in the parent guide. The last riddle leads there; the invitation and certificate help introduce and finish the story.

Check the kit before the crew arrives

Preview the invitation, cards, hints, guide and certificates. Choose A4 or US Letter to suit your paper, print and cut the cards, then hide them in the guide’s order. Keep the guide and hints with the grown-up rather than handing out the answers with the first clue.

A REAL PRINTABLE TRAIL EXAMPLE

Six clues, one connected adventure.

Fictional explorer: Alex · Ages 7–9 · Replace the sample places with ones you have.

  1. Clue 1

Ahoy, crew! Your first secret message awaits. My shelves hold stories side by side. Among their spines, a clue can hide.

  2. Clue 2

The lookout has spotted another sign. I am a comfy seat for more than one. Look beside my cushions to keep up the fun.

  3. Clue 3

    A message in a bottle has washed ashore. Decode the hiding place. A=1, B=2, C=3, up to Z=26: 19-8-15-5 / 18-1-3-11

  4. Clue 4

You have reached the captain’s secret trail. Plates gather here when meals begin. Look underneath to find your next win.

  5. Clue 5

Only a clever crew can find this final passage. I cradle your head when day turns to night. Look underneath me for your next delight.

  6. Clue 6

The lost treasure is almost within reach! When play is done, toys come to stay. Find their basket to continue your day.

The answer to each clue tells you where to put the next card. Keep this guide with the grown-up.

  1. Hand card 1 to the explorers.
  2. Hide card 2 at Bookshelf — the answer to clue 1.
  3. Hide card 3 at Sofa — the answer to clue 2.
  4. Hide card 4 at Shoe rack — the answer to clue 3.
  5. Hide card 5 at Dining table — the answer to clue 4.
  6. Hide card 6 at Pillow — the answer to clue 5.
  7. Put the treasure at Toy basket — the answer to clue 6.

More than six cards.

An invitation to begin

Add the explorer or team name, date, time, location and RSVP details. One invitation introduces the shared adventure.

A guide for the grown-up

Keep the hiding order and answers private. Optional hints help you offer a nudge without immediately giving away the destination.

A certificate to celebrate

Use the explorer name, or add a list of names in Pages for individual certificates. The invitation name stays unchanged.

Planning questions

Does the hunt need a treasure map?

No. The riddles provide the route. An optional progress map can mark completed clues, but it is not a floor plan of your home.

Can I use the pirate theme indoors?

Yes. Choose indoor hiding places in the editor. The sample below uses familiar objects; replace any that are not available in your space.

Can I edit and download a purchased hunt again?

An individually unlocked hunt can be edited and downloaded again unless its payment is refunded. Pro PDF access depends on an active paid entitlement.

Make this adventure your own.

Edit the clues and hiding places, preview the pages and unlock your PDF when you are ready.
