Start with the garden you actually have
A backyard hunt does not need a large lawn. A flowerpot, garden bench, watering can and picnic blanket can make a connected route. Replace any suggested location that is not present in your own space, and check that each riddle describes the replacement.
Agree the boundaries before play
Show the children where the game begins and ends. Keep cards away from roads, water, tools and places that require climbing. A clue can be beside a gate without asking a child to open it or leave the garden. An adult should supervise the group and help with every transition.
Keep cards in place
Outdoor cards can move in wind. Choose sheltered spots and secure the cards with a suitable removable method that will not damage the object. Check the route shortly before play. Keep a spare copy of the PDF and collect all cards afterwards.
Have an indoor alternative
If the weather changes, replace the destinations in the editor and regenerate the affected clues before printing a new set. Do not move a card indoors while leaving a riddle that still points outside. Keep the parent guide matched to the cards you are using.
